There is something magical about Independence Day in Essex, New York.
This year feels even more special as our community joins in celebrating America's 250th Birthday—a reminder of the enduring spirit that shaped this remarkable corner of the Champlain Valley. The same shores that witnessed the earliest chapters of our nation's story are alive today with laughter, music, and the simple joys of summer.
At Lady on the Lake, the season is in full bloom.
The gardens are bursting with colorful flowers. Kayaks glide across the calm waters of Lake Champlain as paddlers explore quiet coves and take in breathtaking views of the Adirondack Mountains and Vermont's Green Mountains. The ferry makes its familiar journey back and forth across the lake, just as it has for generations, connecting neighbors and visitors alike.
One of the things we love most about Essex is that its historic character never changes. The beautiful Federal homes, welcoming churches, peaceful harbor, and walkable Main Street continue to tell stories that stretch back more than two centuries.
Yet every summer brings something wonderfully new.
Families return to create another chapter of cherished traditions. Friends gather around evening campfires. Children discover the joy of skipping stones along the shoreline or enjoying an ice cream after exploring the village. Visitors find their favorite Adirondack chair overlooking the lake, while others experience Essex for the very first time and quickly understand why so many fall in love with this extraordinary place.
This Independence Day, the hamlet is filled with patriotic pride as neighbors and guests come together to celebrate not only our nation's history, but also the vibrant community that continues to thrive here today.
As the sun sets over Lake Champlain and the evening light reflects across the water, we are reminded that while history provides our foundation, each season offers an opportunity to make new memories.
Whether you spend your days kayaking, strolling the historic streets, browsing the local shops, dining by the waterfront, or simply enjoying the peaceful view from your cottage porch, we hope Lady on the Lake becomes part of your own family tradition.
From all of us at Lady on the Lake, Happy Independence Day and Happy America 250! Here's to celebrating our past, embracing the present, and looking forward to many more summers on the shores of beautiful Essex.
We can't wait to welcome you.
